Static Magnets, Upper Pecs, and Burning Fat!

Question: I have three quick questions.

  1. Do magnets work for increasing athletic performance?
  2. What is the best way to work upper pecs?
  3. Is there a better way than conventional cardio, treadmill, etc., to burn fat?

Answers:
Let's get three quick answers then.

Magnets: Static magnets, including those worn by the major league baseball players, have no beneficial effects or performance enhancing capabilities. That is according to a university study done in Plymouth, England. Static magnets show no medical benefits despite claims that they are capable of reducing lower back inflammation, foot pain, carpal tunnel syndrome, fibromyalgia and muscle soreness.

Upper Pecs: Incline presses with either a barbell or dumbbells activate more muscle fibers in the upper pecs by 5% to 10% more than those done on a flat bench. A less conventional exercise, one that requires a good spotter and very precise technique is the reverse-grip bench press. It was shown in a Canadian study that this exercise activated 30% more upper pec fibers than a regular grip bench press. Literally turn your hands in the opposite direction than when doing a conventional bench press. You may have to adjust your hand width when you change your grip. Please have a good partner handy when you try this one and start with a light weight to get a good feel for the exercise.

Burning Fat: Crossfit type or boot camp style workouts using high intensity calisthenics and short rest intervals burn a high number of calories and excites your resting metabolic rate as an added bonus. Both are good types of cardio to do that can beat the boredom associated with a treadmill and burn the fat.

God bless and keep training,
Daryl
