You have to make it happen...

Question: I took the time to write down my goals for this year but I seem to have gone no where in achieving them. How do I keep on track?

Answer: If you know where you want to go, you need to realize where you are so you can establish a beginning point. The best way to help you achieve your goals is to write them down in a private notebook and also in a place that you see daily to keep the desires fresh. Also, write down daily or weekly goals which are stepping stones to realizing your final goal. The trick to making this positive reinforcement work is to review them each week and update your progress and achievements. It only takes ten minutes or so a week but consistent positive reinforcement builds a winning attitude and attitude is at least half the battle.

In the gym, and believe me you will probably get plenty of funny looks if you train in a "fitness center," but persevere and write down as you train or as soon as you finish training what you did in your workout. Once you have made that a habit, go a step further, and actually write down what you plan to do in the gym prior to your training session as a stepping stone to winning the final prize you have set for yourself. This way you begin to build a positive mindset prior to training and have a plan before you actually enter the gym. If you have a "bad" workout, write down why and how you felt, like you didn't get to eat your normal lunch due to meetings and your workout was rushed because you needed to get in and out of the gym and it was exceptionally crowded. It's not enough to want something special for yourself, you have to make it happen. To be more than average, more than a face in the crowd, you have to prepare yourself to become special. Your days and training will not always go as planned - but if you plan and execute what you planned, you stand a far greater chance of achieving your dreams than if you wait to see if it happens. Be proactive, not reactive. Without planning you lose sight of the prize in the distance and get caught in the mundane events of the day to day existence.

God bless and keep training,
Daryl
