Question: Congrats to your daughter for winning the 300m hurdles state championship. She said she trained at your gym and it was what made the difference. What did she do in her training and is it a replicable program?
Answer: All athletes begin their training with an assessment workout to determine their strengths and weaknesses. Some exercises such as cleans, squats, benches, deads and even leg curls. Hamstring strength is essential for performance and knee stability. Once baseline strength is determined, balancing the strength is the next step. Routines are developed for more work on weaker areas to bring them online with stronger areas. Exercises are added as needed for specific sports.
Flexibility is a major component for athletic excellence so stretching is done after the training.
Plyometric exercises are used to develop explosiveness by training nerves to fire. As strength increases so does the training pace to develop a tough mental attitude as well as muscle endurance.
Mental toughness is a necessity for success and training cycles grow progressively more difficult
It is a training environment that has produced D-1 athletes in multiple sports as tennis, track, golf, football, baseball, lacrosse, basketball and dance team.
Make the training fun and challenging. Teach the reasoning behind sound nutrition so that the kids understand why food selection is so important for athletic excellence.
God bless and keep training,
Daryl
